Press Release Summary: After years of selling traditional items
like cookie dough, candy and wrapping paper, parents and schools
are being introduced to a new, more educational
fund raising option this year: An actual published book, written
by their children.
Press Release Body: Raleigh, North Carolina October 5, 2007 - Students
2 Authors a company based out of North Carolina has plans to turn
millions of children into published authors, while at the same time
helping schools and other organizations around the nation change
the way they conduct fundraisers.
With the Students 2 Authors program children grades k to 12 create
short stories, which are then published into a life sized book and
that book is then used as the fundraising
product for their school.
What sets this apart from your traditional fundraising company,
is the fact that this program is designed to promote healthy reading
and writing skills by giving each student the opportunity to become
an “author” of an actual published book.
”It’s a joy to see children, even those who in the past may have
had a severe dislike for reading and writing, to actually enjoy
writing their parts in the book and then reading the finished item
and sharing their stories with others in their class” Says Melida
Cohen, Students 2 Authors co-founder.
She goes on the say that “Our business
model helps schools and other organizations to raise the money
that they may need to operate, but more importantly, it does it
in a way that also benefits children by promoting healthy reading
an writing habits.”
”Before the S2A program (was introduced), I would ask my students
to write and they would moan and groan” Said Ms. Traccio, 2nd Grade
teacher at Columbus elementary in Bridgeport, Connecticut. “Now
they are very willing to write, plus once their books came back
published they were very excited. It gave them a sense of accomplishment.”
Each book features a class photo on the front cover as well as individual
photos of each child along with the child’s name and age right before
his or her story, giving each book a personalized theme.
Like the book that 7 year old, Mia co-authored along with her classmates.
“Its actually the best story that I’ve ever written. This is really
cool because its more fun to read a book that was written by me
and my friends then one written by someone I don’t know” Said Mia.
The entire process is quite simple. Schools collect the stories,
orders and money then ship them in and wait for the books to arrive.
Parent Vondre Whalley says “It’s a unique, fun, educational
system that makes fundraising less taxing on us parents and
I can imagine on school officials”
Plus he says “People get tired of the usual fundraisers; Candy bars
and trinkets that are worth ¼ of what you pay for them. With this
you get a sense of real value. It’s a win-win for all.”
