New York, New York 12 October 2007 – Tamarind Art is delighted to announce its upcoming

KS Radhakrishnan
Opening reception: 18 October 2007, 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

About the artists:
Samir Aich has been painting for almost three decades now. He started out as a neo
realist and
gradually moved into semi-abstract figurative themes. His art borders abstraction
and Aich often uses
unusual surfaces and media to express his creative thoughts, which are passionate,
expressionistic and bold.
Ashok Bhowmick’s paintings derive their strength primarily from the genre of
Symbolic Expressionism wherein the emphasis is more on creating a visual surface that
offers hints of recognizable imageries and yet remain quite mysterious and
enigmatic. With
somber colors and bold renderings the collective effect of his paintings is a sense
of silence and stillness.
Dhiraj Chowdhury is known for his juxtaposition of the mellifluous and sensuous
Bengali character with his expressionistic figuration. His versatility manifests
itself in his use of the medium emphasizing on drawing.
Bimal Kundu Drawing his initial inspiration from Brancusi, Kundu chooses to make much
simpler yet pure forms, moving away from his early minimalist approach and began
experimenting with abstraction. While never entirely rejecting the natural world, Kundu
undoubtedly succeeds in conveying a sense of gravity by reducing his work to a few
basic elements.
KS Radhakrishnan’s gymnastic figures dance through space, defying gravity, while
maintaining most slender contact with their bases. Acrobatic in their resilience,
they subvert
conventions of the sculpture creating rhythmic labyrinth in their surrounding space
despite the heavy metal that they are made of.
