BeechTek introduces the NEC new EXPRESS5800 100 percent redundant Servers Featuring Quad-Core and Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processors

announced the general availability of NEC\'s new Fault Tolerant (ft) 100% redundant
Series servers. Launched in March 2006, the NEC Express5800/320Fc-MR Series server
features up to two Quad-Core
Intel Xeon processors 5300 Series. In addition, NEC
Corporation of America is also announcing the NEC Express5800/320Fc-LR Series server
with one- or two-socket Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processors 5100 Series. The NEC
Express5800/320Fc is the first product developed jointly by NEC Corporation and
Stratus Technologies, Inc. as a result of their collaboration agreement signed
November 2005.
Both versions of the NEC
Express5800/320Fc Series server are available in North
America today.
Press Release Body: The NEC Express5800/320Fc Series servers feature enhanced
versions of NEC\'s GeminiEngine™ chipset to ensure lockstep processing in redundant
components with no impact to performance. The NEC Express5800/320Fc-MR
and LR
Series servers have the same memory capacity, bandwidth and
HDD options. These new servers
deliver: 200 percent performance gain over third-generation Dual-Core models
(performance metric specific to the Quad-Core version) fast front-side bus with up
to 66 percent greater CPU Input/Output (I/O) 50 percent increase in memory capacity
PCI-Express expansion for 25 percent faster I/O and compatibility enhanced internal
disk support certified support for NEC\'s recently announced D-Series storage
arrays.
Both editions of NECs FT server currently support Microsoft
Windows Server 2003,
Enterprise Edition and both will also support Red Hat® Linux Enterprise Edition.
This will enable a wide range of Open Source applications to run on Red Hat Linux on
the high availability ft server.

Additionally, the NEC Express5800/320Fc servers have optional ActiveUpgrade™
software to minimize system downtime associated with update activities. This new
software enables the user to install update modules or operating system related
security patches without rebooting the system.
NEC\'s ft servers address planned and unplanned downtime through
complete
hardware
redundancy, which enables the active and physically replicated modules to process
the same instructions simultaneously. The replicated modules include CPU, memory,
I/O components, hard disk drives, power supply and cooling fans. In the event of a
hardware failure, the replicated module continues normal operation, ensuring
transparent fail-over and system integrity. The faulty module is separated
automatically, but there is no need to interrupt system operation during
replacement.
